Zilker Elementary and Zilker PTA - Supporting Zilker Families

In partnership with our Zilker PTA we are setting up a food pantry at Zilker Elementary.  This is something we have been wanting to do for a while, and now is a great time to start.  We are going to start taking donations this week at school.  Please bring non-perishable food items to the school for us to build our supply.

This is something we hope to continue with your support through the school year, no matter what happens with SNAP benefits as we have a need in the community.

Also, if you are a family in need of additional support, please reach out to our school counselors or Principal Pitts for more information about ways we can support.  We will also be proactivly calling all familes that we are aware of who receive SNAP benefits to check in.

Welcome River - Our New Service Dog!

Dear Zilker Families,

We are thrilled to share some exciting news — our Zilker Therapy Dog is returning this year! Ms. Wolden, one of our wonderful Kindergarten teachers, will be sharing her dog River with our school community.

River is 7 years old and a certified therapy dog through Divine Canines. To earn this certification, River completed extensive temperament and behavior testing to ensure he is calm, gentle, and predictable in settings such as schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and libraries. We are so excited to welcome River to Zilker!

At school, River will join us for classroom visits 1–2 days a week and will also be available to support students as needed. Students will be encouraged to wash their hands after petting River to help minimize the spread of dander. If your child has allergies or if you prefer that your child not interact with River for any reason, please don’t hesitate to reach out so we can make the appropriate accommodations.

Thank you for all that you do to support your child and our school community — we’re truly in this together!

Warmly,

Elizabeth Vreeland, Suzanne O’Brien

Request for Paper Grocery Bags for Winter Art Portfolios

Dear Families,

We’re getting ready to send home your child’s artwork from the year so far, just in time for winter break! To help us safely package and transport all of their wonderful creations, we’re asking each family to please send in paper grocery bags, as many as you can!

These bags will be used to create winter art portfolios for each student. Please send them in by the first week of December so we have time to prepare.

Thank you so much for your help and support!

Thank you,

Traci Sullivan

Zilker Field Maintance - scheduled for Fall break

We have been enjoying our grass field for about a year now - Can you believe it??

During the fall break the grass field will be closed for restoration. ABC will be aerating and composting and asked that we keep people off of it for that entire week. For this reason, we will be locking the fences to the Zilker property.  We know this is an inconvience, however it is a necessay one to ensure our grass lasts for years to come.

We will be doing the same during spring break and this will be the case each year going forward.
